TOP 5 Heath Tips for 2017 & Omega-3

Today, I want to talk to you about the importance of taking Omega-3 oils, and if you add one new thing to your diet in 2017 alongside the lovely green- let it be Omega-3 oils!

Omega-3 is called an essential fatty acid for a reason – it’s essential for your body to function!  You need both omega 3 oils and nutrients as you get them in natural foods, such as your wheatgrass juice, as they support and compliment each other.

What is omega-3 oil?

There are two important omega-3s, DHA and EPA, which are found mainly in oily fish including salmon, mackerel and sardines. You can eat plantbased omega-3 such as linseeds, pecans, hazelnuts and walnuts, which are rich in a third form called ALA, but unfortunately only 5% gets converted into DHA and EPA, which are the important forms. This means ideally you should take fish oils.

Omega-3 vs omega-6

Unfortunately, most of us are not getting enough omega-3. We tend to have much higher levels of a different fatty acid, omega-6, in our diets, found in foods such as vegetable oils and meat.

The problem is that if we get more omega-6 than omega-3, it can cause inflammation, which may be linked to conditions ranging from arthritis, autoimmune disease, cancer to heart disease. As you can see from the table, we should ideally have a 1:1 ratio between omega 6 and omega 3 oils in the body. The problem is that in the western diet we can end up with 15-17 times more omega 6 to omega 3 and this can cause serious chronic diseases.

Research has shown that if we reduce our ratio between omega-6 and omega-3 to 4/1 then there was a 70% decrease in total cardiovascular mortality rate! A ratio of 2.5/1 reduced rectal cell growth in patients with colorectal cancer. The lower 2/1 ratio in women with breast cancer was associated with significant decreased risk. A ratio of 2-3/1 suppressed inflammation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, and a ratio of 5/1 had a beneficial effect on patients with asthma, whereas a ratio of 10/1 had adverse consequences.

So, as you can see it really matters for your health what your omega-6 to 3 ratio is!

The answer? Up your omega-3 intake & take a test.

It’s recommended we eat one portion of oily fish every week, but actually farmed fish can contain omega-6 because of the diet they are fed!

Other benefits of taking the right quality omega-3 oil with a good balance of DHA and EPA are numerous:

  • It can help you sleep better
  • It can soothe your skin
  • It can lower your blood pressure
  • It can boost your memory
  • It can ease PMS
  • Helps against depression
  • AND obviously help prevent the chronic diseases in the table.

Which Omega-3 oil to take?

There are a great many omega-3 oils to choose from on the market, but they are far from all equally good. As I am totally passionate about health and am always on the look-out for top health products that really do make a difference, I want to share with you what company I now use.

I swear by the company EQ, who in my research has come up top as the cleanest and most effective omega-3 oil on the market.

EQ Pure Omega-3 oil is from 100 % Arctic whole wild fish off the Norwegian coast with cold-pressed olive oil and vitamin D3 – and added fresh lemon flavour. This means it does not taste of fish (which a good omega-3 should not do) and it is not from fish liver where all the toxins are stored.

Also, they include a test with your order, so you can measure your own omega-3 values before you start.  You then measure them again after 120 days of taking the oil to see how your omega-3 levels have risen.  In this way, you can actually follow your increase in heart health and overall health!

Results show that nearly all who have used EQ Pure Arctic Oil for at least 120 days have achieved an improved fatty acid balance.
